Translation of a blog post by Hong Kong blogger “Those Were the Days” entitled “In Serious Protest Against the CCP Government’s Shameless Smearing of Hong Kong Journalists, Accusing Them of Inciting Public Disorder” Here is my translation of the blog post:- “Even now I still cannot calm down. Only rage, rage and rage. Only extreme (expletive) rage! I can never imagine how a government, a great nation, which has more or less squeezed itself in on the international stage, and which has earned a bit of status in the international community, can be so shameless, knavish, lawless, unable to tell right from wrong, black from white, turning a victim into an accused, twisting facts and twisting truths – how can such a nation and motherland be so thick-skinned as to tell Hong Kong people to be patriotic? Hong Kong journalists were beaten and arrested by Xinjiang police. Although the Xinjiang authorities confiscated the films shot by Now TV, but just by watching the TVB news clip, any person with a normal cognitive mind would be able to tell that the TVB and Now TV journalists were absolutely subjected to the Xinjiang police’s unreasonable use of physical force and prohibited from their reporting on the Xinjiang protests. Adding the evidence of the reporters’ body wounds on top, it is an inconcealable fact that the CCP government was using violence to clamp down on freedom of the press. Yet the Xinjiang official press office can dismiss all facts and evidence outright and tell lies with eyes wide open, turning the plaintiff into the accused, and vilify Hong Kong journalists, saying they were ‘using gestures to direct the protesters and were suspected of inciting public disorder’. The press release also says that the journalists refused to show their reporters’ permits, and kept scurrying in the crowds, thus three of them were arrested after law enforcers’ advice was ignored. ‘In the process of enforcing the law, some things happened that none of us wanted to see happen, and we deeply regret this.’ This was not the end of it. The press office went on to accuse the Hong Kong media who were sounding their support for the victims, saying ‘Some media are taking the chance to fabricate irresponsibly, and some individuals, not understanding all the facts, have made irresponsible comments.’ (Expletive) Who is really the one that’s irresponsible? Is it the Hong Kong media? Or is it the Xinjiang press office? My colleagues and I watched the Hong Kong reporters on TV in solidarity at the news conference, pressing the question whether it was alright to beat up people, whether it was alright to beat up reporters. Some reporters even shouted: ‘Government is shameless!’ I have to salute them. They were still physically inside Xinjiang, still under the rule of that barbaric government, yet they dared to publicly rebuke the barbaric rulers. At that moment, Hong Kong reporters broke out from their inhibitions. Beijing and Xinjiang government, please don’t underestimate Hong Kong reporters’ morals. I hope all Hong Kongers will not treat this incident lightly. I hope they do not think it is a matter that would not concern them, and that the CCP government is only after the disobedient Hong Kong media. Under today’s ‘one country, two systems’, the CCP government is still circumspect and may not blatantly detain Hong Kong journalists. However, they are already tightening the noose and raising the stakes – they are using ‘inciting public disorder’ as a weapon against Hong Kong journalists. If Hong Kongers continue to keep silent and let them do whatever they want, there will be a day when that kind of treatment will be used on us. If Hong Kong journalists are incapable of defending their freedom to report, then that freedom will gradually be eroded, until one day when everyone loses all kinds of freedom. Then, it will be too late to change anything, and Hong Kong will truly experience death. So, when we still have hope, when we can still voice our opinion, we should express our views about our core values, including freedom of the press. Hong Kongers must let the CCP government know that we can say no to them when things get unbearable.”

What do you want Wahaha?
written by Sarah , September 16, 2009
Why are you so personally offended? Can't you see that these Hong Kong journalists are under the same Government as you, and that in the end, you both probably want the same thing, a government that doesn't beat it's own citizens for asking questions. Or do you want that?

And what is it that you want Wahaha? Justice? Brutality? Journalism is necessary for Democracy. With out it, Democracy will suffer. That's why the U.S. is having so many problems right now, we allow our Media to report on stupid stuff, while our leaders do stupid things. Nobody pays attention. If we were paying attention, they would hear our criticism and change. It's not that different from your government not allowing the media to report on stuff, while your low level officials do stupid things. And they try to stifle anyone who wants to criticize them. It's all about letting them get on with what they want to do with their power. And why bring up an issue about a government deficit? Have you ever been to Hong Kong? That money most likely went to government programs. If it didn't, you don't have any room to talk, or do you think it is also beyond mainland officials to take money for their personal use? report abuse

"Do you think Chinese journalists should be beaten up by Chinese police? "

Who told you that those journalists were beaten in XinJiang ? Let me tell you, the media in China doesnt have much credibility among Chinese, neither do the media in Hongkong, in Europe and in America, get it ? I had personal experience facing Chinese police in 1986 demostration : we were surrounded by lot of police, they asked us getting onto the buses they prepared for us(back to schools), if anyone refused, he would be forced onto the buses by police. I believe the crap of beating simply is a lie or exaggeration by your journalists, not cuz I think the police are nice or not bad, it is cuz there were lot of people there. they must be warned to stay away, but they refused, then police pulled them into the police cars, and there were lot of push-around. The lack of freedom of media in China is something those journalists didnt like(we dont like that either). Last year, you may blame the control of media on Tibet. This year, after reading those reports on 7.5 by your people, we really dont give a damn if west media and their puppets are given the freedom of reports or not, CUZ YOU CARE ONLY WHAT YOU CARE (that is, collecting evidences to prove your points), NOT WHAT WE CARE. report abuse

Wahaha and Movemoutain, pathetic comments trying to justify the barbarity of the CCP administration in Xinjiang by comparing it with Malaysia or the British rule. But why divert attention to others if you have nothing to hide, huh? If you're so righteous, why don't you actually offer examples where CCP has behaved in a just and humane way to its OWN CITIZENS? And it seems you have absolutely nothing to say on the matter of the case itself. Do you think Chinese journalists should be beaten up by Chinese police? Do you think it is a glorious CCP achievement that its own police beat up its own journalists? Let's us see you try to answer this without even more prevarications and smokescreens.

Nice one !!!! some idiots in Hongkong have no idea what kind of stupid system they are having : The government own 588 billion dollars of debt for 7 million hong kong people, that is $84,000 for each one. With so much borrowed money, hong kong is still gradually losing its competitive edge. Where did the money go : 1) if the money went to the rich, then the elected are of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. 2) if the money went to the govenrment officers, the corruption in Hongkong must be 10 times worse than in Mainland. 3) If the money went to the people, then most of the people in Hongkong are bunch of morons who should be regulated. Where did the money go ? tell us, we are all ears. report abuse

| From vultures in Delhi, to coups in Pakistan, a journalist's un-edited take on current events |
1) Well, we think those journalists believed that they should be treated differently cuz they were from Hongkong, hence they could disobey the orders by police, not like other reporters in China.
2) If you can answer my question "Where did the money go ?", then you know why more and more chinese dont want WESTERN democracy, clear ? the system in China is bad politically, but China under western democracy would be worse, MORE chinese would suffer under western democracy,( the reason I ask you guys to google "Child labor".) at least in near future.
3) Who give you people the right to consider yourselves superior, huh ? 20 years ago, we from mainland were widely despised by hongkongers cuz we were poor. Did Hongkongers f@#$ing treat us equally ? Now try to sell us the hollow human right crap that you people didnt even follow ? sell us the crap that failed delivering in all the developing countries ?
What we want ? simple, we want to live better, we want our children having good education and good pay jobs when they graduate from colleges, we want that every chinese family can afford a nice home, we want that every chinese can afford going aboard during holidays. Can western democracy provide that ? can the hollow freedom provide that ?
