The so called protectors of press freedoms over the years have turned out to be the very people they claim to be protecting the press and publishers against. Singapore has a sovereign right to enact their restrictive press laws. There are good reasons for their restrictions. Being a so called opposition and pro democracy advocate does not count for much. These are but mere cheap labels to embellish one's faded and jaded credentials.

Jeyaratnam knows the laws and ought to know them better than most as a lawyer. If he breaches it, and it appears he has, he has an obligation as an officer of the court and as a member of parliament (if he still is) to come forward, apologise for his actions and accept the consequences of his actions.

There are too many who abuse their freedoms by either making up stories that are detrimental to the peace, good governance and security of the small island nation and its instiutions in the name of democracy.

One merely has to look north of the caueway Malaysia and the state it is in today. It is the result of 12 years of unbriddled NGO and NED financed riotous behaviour by the so called champions of democracy operating there.

Had the government of DS Najib acted and acted in time and forcefully to nip in the bud such "vandals" calling themselves champions of democracy of the free media, that country would not be in the state they now find themselves in.

There are many things I do not like about Singapore which is why I do not live in Singapore. If I do comment on the island nation and its government and institutions then I am careful about what I say as I am when commenting about any other state in any other jurisdiction with strict enforeceable media laws.

Lets look at the US and the state it is in because of its "free press". Rupert Murdoch once when questioned about his media organization and the half truths they produce replied, "we're in the besiness of entertainment" (words to that effect.)

Thanks for enlightening me with above and Asia News. Btw, I am grateful for Asia Sentinel to change the settings as I can't sent articles as link to WA. Secondly, better to follow Guardian newspaper when I send the link to WA the title of the article automatically pasted together. Not the person photos. Thanks
