Lee will retain the all powerful sec-gen as well as an advisory role (SM or MM) in the PMO, seemingly behind the scenes whilst his mascot, Wong, is tasked with bringing on board the next Lee heir - apparently an "independent" decision by the new cabinet without any involvement from the "retired" LHL.

Sorry my mistake. I failed toremark on a factual error in your report.
Larence Wong is not going to be the third PM. In fact he is to be the 4th PM.
PMs in order:
Lee Kuan Yew(decesased)
Goh Chok Tong(retired)
Lee Hsien Loong(out going)
Lawrence Wong(to be)
He is the fourth pm but it is the third transition.
What shock announcement ? This has been widely expected for the past two years at least.
The shock would be if he announced his retirement from politics.
We all know where this is going don't we?
How is it a shock if we already knew Wong would be next in line
