It will be better wisdom as well as the enlightenment of the whole world as it is for historical truth should Asia Sentinel send its better lawyers, journalists and representatives to the Philippines and check with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the real reason why the cabal of Maria was shut down. This is never about press freedom but a violation of the dictum viz acceptance of foreign funds for media practice. The Philippine Constitution reserves the media industry solely for Filipinos and participation of foreign interests therein is prohibited. Likewise, Asia Sentinel may need to go and check the records of the case where the head of their cabal was convicted for cyber libel in a case filed by a businessman for her libelous reporting and lies. Truth in journalism is never about hearing verbally just one side of the coin but being diligent in finding the truth as per official records. Asia Sentinel is a more respected institution and can not allow itself to be a harbringer of lies.

We do not ordinarily comment on responses to stories. but this is factually wrong. The Omidyar gift of PDRS does not confer ownership or control. second, the cyber libel law under which Ressa is accused was passed three years after the story ran. We have examined the circumstances and concluded that these charges against Ressa and Rappler are baseless -- editors
